Power distribution modules
As the number of electric systems increases, a power distribution module has been developed to manage them. It replaces the relays and fuses from the electric systems of vehicles, simplifies the wiring harness, lightens the weight and increases reliability. The power distribution module is connected with a CAN bus to the engine control unit and data logging device. The benefits of a power distribution module also include a clear and simple wiring harness. All data from the electric system can be collected in the data logging device. This facilitates finding failures in problem situations. For example, the power and voltage values of the fuel pump can be saved. The engine control unit can be used to control the electric system. If the oil pressure is low, the engine can be shut down automatically.
The operating principles of the different models of power distribution modules are the same. Only the number of channels is different. For example, PDM 15 has 15 outputs, of which eight are 20 amps and seven are eight amps. Inputs include 16 switches and the data from the CAN bus. Diagnostics includes the current power and voltages, input voltages and channel diagnostics.
